Accounts

So, editing this wiki requires an account. How can you get one?

Accounts can be requested via Special:RequestAccount. Accounts will be granted via this system to members. See Membership to find out how to become a member.

Members don't have accounts automatically created upon joining. This is partly so that people can choose their own username. People are encouraged to use their real names, but then we also recognise the convenience of having a single username everywhere. Or, you can pick a name which is totally unrelated to both your real name and your Wikimedia name. There is no need for a link between your status as a WMAU member and a Wikimedia user account. The secretary will record the link (because access is tied to membership, and membership may expire), but you don't have to reveal it to other people if you don't want to.
